About WCOA 2018 Sydney Accounting Conference

Sydney is gearing up to host a major international accounting conference that will bring together more than 6,000 delegates from over 130 countries to hear world-class speakers and leaders from the finance and business community.

The World Congress of Accountants (WCOA) is a momentous event for the global accountancy profession, a chance to engage with visionaries and leaders and bring your own expertise to the fore on the world stage.

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and CPA Australia are honoured to be co-hosting the twentieth WCOA in 2018 in Sydney, Australia. Even as technology makes global connectivity easier, there is something uniquely stimulating about coming together as a cohort to identify new challenges, share knowledge and set new strategic directions.

The 2018 WCOA will be held against the backdrop of an uncertain economic landscape, where most countries are still finding their way back to solid financial ground and voters are turning their back on global partnerships. The future of our profession is ours to make and WCOA provides the ideal opportunity to be part of shaping the future. We encourage all members of our profession to be present, share their insight and engage with the brightest minds and most adventurous spirits.

WCOA Mission

WCOA’s mission is to bring together finance leaders, policy setters, accountants and business leaders in a world-class business event that embraces the future of our profession.

We celebrate diverse cultures, recognise key milestones, and set a blueprint for the future of accounting.

WCOA will look back at how the world has changed since the 10th Congress held in Sydney in 1972, connecting themes from that event to the WCOA 2018.

We will also mark the 40th anniversary of IFAC, taking a look at its past, present and future as the peak global body for accountants.

In convening this Congress, the organising committee has four goals – reduce, rethink, recognise and report.

Our mission is to reduce waste, the use of energy and emissions, and consider innovative ways to provide fresh food and beverages to Congress attendees in sustainable ways.

We want to rethink the supply chain and partnerships needed to bring Congress to life. This includes celebrate diversity – the diversity of Australian culture, of women in leadership, and cultural diversity across the globe.

It’s also our goal to recognise the role youth play in the future of our profession, plus recognise Congress will leave a positive and lasting imprint on our host city of Sydney.

Finally, we want to report and communicate the environmental, social and economic impacts that WCOA will leave behind.
