History of WCOA

The World Congress of Accountants has a history dating back to 1904, and has been held every four years since 2002. Conducted under the auspices of the International Federation of Accountants IFAC), WCOA is the peak event for the accounting profession at a global level, attracting more than 6,000 delegates from 130 countries. Here’s the history of WCOA:

  • 10th World Congress of Accountants – Sydney 1972
  • The 10th World Congress was held in 1972, attracting more than 5,000 delegates from around 80 nations.
  • The event was hosted by CA ANZ and CPA Australia, and was the first time the conference had been held outside Europe or North America.
  • Now, 46 years later, CA ANZ and CPA Australia are incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to host the 20th World Congress.
  • Although 46 years is a long time, and in that time the political climate and technology has rapidly changed, the WCOA’s core purpose remains the same.
  • Congress is to bring together finance, business and accounting professionals from around the world to share ideas.
