Gillian is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Accounting, RMIT University. Her roles within the School have included Post Graduate Program Director and Acting Deputy Head Learning and Teaching. With a focus on technology and performance measurement in public health, Gillian’s passion for developing digital innovations for teaching and research is aimed at delivering authentic learning experiences for students.
More recently Gillian was nominated as a finalist in the 2018 Australasian Serious Games Showcase, with her simulations now being used by more than 7,000 students in multiple countries around the world. Gillian has published in journals including Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Journal of Accounting and Finance, Issues in Accounting Education, Journal of Accounting and Finance, and Research in the Sociology of Organizations Journal. Gillian has a background career in the healthcare industry and is an active member of RMITs Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisory Group. She is also an author of a management accounting textbook, Management Accounting, Wiley which is about to move into a 4th edition. Gillian has received grants for her research activities from the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), HRH Prince of Wales Accounting for Sustainability Project (A4S) and CPA Australia Global Research Funds. More recent funding from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA, USA) and RMITs Global Business Innovation Platform has resulted in a project on ‘Accounting’s Role in Ethical Control: Budgeting and Patient Mix Choices in Public Hospitals’. This work has been promoted in both National and international health and accounting conferences, generating considerable support.
