Chief Executive Officer - CPA Canada
Unifying the profession
Joy Thomas, MBA, FCPA, FCMA, C. Dir. is President and CEO of Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada), one of the largest national accounting organisations in the world, representing more than 210,000 members.
CPA Canada was created through the unification of three legacy accounting designations and is a respected voice in the business, government, education and non-profit sectors and champions sustainable economic growth and social development. The unified organisation is celebrating five years of serving the profession, advocating for the public interest and supporting the setting of accounting, auditing and assurance standards. CPA Canada develops leading-edge thought leadership, research, guidance and educational programs to ensure its members are equipped to drive success and shape the future.
Prior to joining CPA Canada, Joy was president and chief executive officer of The Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada), a position she assumed in June 2009. In this position, Joy played a key role in the historic unification of Canada’s three legacy designations under the CPA banner.
In 2005, Joy was named a fellow of CMA Canada, a prestigious award that recognised CMAs who bring distinction to the profession and serve as role models.
Joy currently serves as a board director and member of the Planning and Finance committee of the International Federation of Accountants, which represents over three million professional accountants worldwide. In 2018, she was elected Chair of the Board on the Global Accounting Alliance. She is also a member of Canada’s National Steering Committee on Financial Literacy.
